Locating, viewing, and organizing downloaded MP4 and WebM video files across Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Android devices
When you click 'Save video' on Android, your browser downloads the file directly to your device's internal storage. To find your video:
1. Open the 'Files by Google' or default 'Files' app from your home screen or app drawer.
2. Tap the 'Downloads' category, or browse to 'Internal storage > Download'.
3. Your video will appear with the filename 'downreels-video.mp4'. From here, you can play it immediately or tap the share menu to move it into Google Photos.
iPhone and iPad (iOS / iPadOS)
Safari and other iOS browsers manage downloads through a centralized download manager:
1. After tapping 'Save video', a download icon (downward arrow in a circle) appears in Safari's address bar.
2. Tap the download icon and select your file to preview it.
3. To save the video to your camera roll (Photos app), tap the Share icon in the bottom-left corner and choose 'Save Video'.
4. You can also locate the raw file at any time by opening the built-in 'Files' app and navigating to 'On My iPhone > Downloads'.
Desktop computers (Windows, Mac, Linux)
On desktop operating systems, browsers save files to your primary user Downloads folder by default:
• Windows: Press Ctrl + J in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox to view recent downloads, or open File Explorer and click 'Downloads' in the sidebar.
• macOS: Press Cmd + Option + L in Safari or Cmd + J in Chrome. You can also open Finder and navigate to your Downloads folder.
• Linux: Files are saved to ~/Downloads. You can play them using default media players or VLC.
Storage retention on DownReels
Prepared videos on DownReels are strictly temporary. The server retains output files for exactly 30 minutes before the automated janitor securely deletes them. Download tickets expire after 60 seconds.
Once you have saved the file to your personal device, it is permanently stored on your local drive and is unaffected by server cleanup.
